move more
It is difficult to find new interests & activities for kids, especially when they enjoy the sofa action of their X-Box, and social chat of Facebook!
Let’s Dance is the latest project from Change4life to get people up and moving; and as it’s being fronted by Britain’s Got Talent winners, Diversity, it might just be cool enough to inspire some of our less active teenagers, get them off their bottoms and get them boogying. Over a thousand free dance classes are being offered this week end. Call free on 0300 123 1051 to book your kids a place now!
Dancing is great way of raising your heart rate and burning energy. It helps young children develop balance co-ordination and a sense of rhythm.Take a look at the action : Lets Dance with Diversity.
Walking Buses
The co-operative (co-op) have a fabulous scheme called Walking Buses, which promotes ‘moving more’ and helps reduce carbon emissions, so it is a win-win for everyone involved.
Their website quotes “If 15 children who were previously driven to school, walked to school for a year, it would save 4,800 car journeys and 4.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide – the equivalent of six flights to New York.” Now that shows how you can make a difference at the grass roots level.
Walking buses offers families who live near a co-op store (with 4,000 in the UK, there is bound to be one near you!) support with high viz vests and promotional material to get the scheme going.
